Therapy for adolescents
I work with young people aged 13 and over.
Therapy can be invaluable for navigating the complexities of adolescence. Psychodynamic therapy offers young people an empowering opportunity to develop self-reflection and autonomy, and to build a more grounded sense of self to carry into adulthood.
I do not believe in pathologising young people or attaching clinical labels prematurely, particularly before they have had the opportunity to explore and question their difficulties.
In my experience, adolescents can move through painful setbacks with enough time, understanding and compassionate challenge in the therapy room. I aim to offer a warm and encouraging space where young people are valued and taken seriously.
From the outset, I establish clear working arrangements with adolescents and their families around confidentiality. This allows young people to feel safe to explore freely, while parents can feel confident that significant concerns will be handled sensitively and appropriately.
